This gun has been nicely refinished though with some evidence of scattered pitting below the finish, and is offered in a nice old refinished case (not original). Barrel markings have been polished out. The mechanics are good though with about an eighth of an inch play in the cylinder. There was a high rate of attrition for guns in the old west - and of 51,300 models 1878 made from 1878 to 1905 less than 200 were made in this calibre - so this is a rare item, one of 50 shipped to London in February 1887. Strong rifling in shiny bore with evidence of polished out pitting to be expected in a hundred year old black powder gun Nice brown checkered grips with the rearing colt emblem. Serial number on butt would place gun in 1887. Smooth solid action in single and double action mode. N.B. The rounds shown mounted in the case are bases only and cannot be reloaded. The Model 1878 is of the same era as the SAA (Single Action Army) but operates in both single and double action. It is similar in many ways to its more famous cousin, the main cosmetic differences being the shape of butt and trigger guard, and the flat loading gate. The .

Well, got to walk the exhibit hall and take a painting class with Jeremie B from France.
Both were excellent as usual. Had a great time seeing all the new and old throughout the hall.
Privateer Press booth was mobbed, with a 2 hour wait in line for people picking up the new Monsterpocalypse collectable game box sets and the new Legends expansion book, Epic warcasters and Character Jacks for Warmachine. The line did get down to a simple 1/2 hour wait later in the day, but wow! What a ride.
Ive uploaded a video from the day, with various snippits and views of the hall and sites seen.
Cool stuff at Gale Force 9s bothe as they are losing the Privateer Press licensing agreements at the end of the year, so two things: The awesome terrain peices they produced for WM were being blown out at the booth at $50/each, and if you bought 3 of them, they would throw in fourth fee, giving you all 4 of the set produced for $150. I could not pass up that deal.

Kotaku reports that UK-based Venom Games may face layoffs or outright closure following an evaluation by parent company Take-Two Interactive. We are assessing the role of Venom Games in Take-Twos overall global studio system and are in a consultation with the employees of Venom in relation to possible redundancies at the studio, Take-Two revealed in a statement. No final decision will be made until after the consultation with employees. The studio is known for its work on the Xbox 360 version of Prey and the recently released boxing simulation Don King Presents: Prizefighter. No reason was provided for the assessment of the studio, though guesswork suggests the negative critical reception of Prizefighter to be the cause.

I was really thinking about this a lot when I was making this game, and for the card that illustrates "gigawatt", I actually used an image of three nuclear power plants powering a city surrounded by green fields. So hopefully at least I got to balance the overall image a little bit. :)
And I never knew that about the waste; it's always seemed to me that if we can create a bomb that unleashes the power of the atom to cause harm, we should be able to harness it for good as well. IMHO, I'd far rather have a nuclear power plant in my backyard than a coal or gas plant. Heck, even supposedly "environmentally friendly" ways of generating electricity aren't always. Dams block up rivers and prevent many fish from reaching their spawning grounds. Biofuels generated from crops (instead of recycled materials) end up wasting more energy than they produce as compared to fossil fuels and they eat up enormous amounts of biodiverse lands. In order to create energy you must first put energy into it. EVERYTHING consumes energy, it's just a matter of how much it puts out compared to how much it consumes and how we use it.
Word to conservationism. There's always a balance, and it's finding that balance between the environment and humanity that I believe creates true sustainability.

But matching them isn't as simple as picking up train cards and laying down matches. And this is where the mechanism unique to the card game comes into play. Throughout the game you will be laying cards down in front of you. You can lay down a set of like (coloured) cards or three different coloured cards. These are stacked by colour. If they're still there by your next turn you get to put the top card from each stack into a facedown pile. It's the cards in this pile which you match against tickets in the scoring rounds. Again, it's not quite so simple as this as there are restrictions on which cards you can lay down. But let's not worry about that, and go back to my earlier comment about the cards being "still there" at the start of your next turn. This is due to a nasty little rule, whereby if you lay down a stack of a colour, anybody else with this colour in front of them has to discard them. Ouch.
