Research Assistants or Research Assistants as Ph.D. Students
Computer-aided Mechanical Engineering
The Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS) is a public-private partnership, established with strong support from the Thai and German governments, for engineering education, technology innovation and business development in Thailand and South-East Asia. Its industry-oriented M.Sc. and Ph.D. level education concept combines teaching and research based on the successful model of RWTH Aachen University, Germany, one of Europes leading technical universities. TGGS is located in new facilities on the campus of King Mongkuts University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB).
We are now looking for research assistants with the following requirements:
Have a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a background in finite element modelling, solid mechanics, dynamics and vibration.
To work on simulation and modelling of impact and vibration problems of structures and components, including damage mechanics. Examples of current or soon to be launched projects include:
- Numerical simulation of impact loaded structures.
- Condition monitoring of rotating machinery.
- Smart structures, vibration control and suppression.
To have or be prepared to develop experience in test and measurement in support of model verification.
Highly motivated for research and development with a capacity for teamwork and project management.
Good communication skills in English, with a TOEFL score of at least 550 (or equivalent).
Relevant work experience would be an advantage.
Our research assistants will work on more than one project, in different teams and also be challenged to contribute to self-dependent research projects utilising skills of project management, planning and presentation. In addition to industry-oriented projects, they will get involved with academic activities in order to practice their academic skills, such as running tutorials or supervising laboratory classes. They should also expect to contribute to the management and day to day running of laboratory facilities.
As an additional option, our research assistants who reach a sufficient level of performance may be offered to pursue a doctoral program at TGGS including an opportunity of one-year research at RWTH-Aachen University in Germany to gain experience at international level.
The available positions are therefore ideal for persons, who are motivated to work in industry-oriented research under the RWTH-Aachen model. In the RWTH-Aachen model, Ph.D. students are research assistants who are fully employed by their professors and considered as engineers. The financial support mainly comes from the project partners, meaning government or industrially funded projects. The salary is paid under a normal condition of employment and is sufficient for a reasonable quality of life. After graduation, Ph.D. students have no binding obligation.
Interested persons are invited to send an application with a full resume, contact details of at least two referees, and stating the code at the bottom right hand corner of this page. Include copies of degree transcripts, and highlight previous project management, research, academic and industrial experience, responsibilities and achievements. All documents should be emailed as pdf files.
